Blocking Spam Calls and Unwanted Numbers

Modified on Wed, 23 Sep at 12:37 AM

The best way to stop spam calls and texts is with your phone's built-in tools: block specific numbers, silence or filter unknown callers, and report spam texts to 7726. Parrot Mobile doesn't have a spam-blocking setting in your account, so these steps all happen on your phone.

Block a specific number

iPhone

  1. Open Phone and tap Recents.
  2. Tap the (i) next to the number, scroll down, and tap Block Caller.
  3. To block texts, open the conversation in Messages, tap the name at the top, and tap Block Caller.

Unblock later in Settings > Apps > Phone > Blocked Contacts.

Android

  1. Open the Phone app and go to Recents or Call history.
  2. Press and hold the number, then tap Block or Block / report spam.
  3. In Google Messages, open the conversation, tap the three-dot menu > Details > Block & report spam.

Manage blocked numbers in the Phone app under Settings > Blocked numbers.

Silence or filter unknown callers

Save the people you want to hear from in your contacts first, since these settings send unknown numbers to voicemail.

  • iPhone: Settings > Apps > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers. Newer iOS versions also offer Screen Unknown Callers, which asks callers who they are before your phone rings.
  • Google Pixel: Phone app > Settings > Spam and Call Screen. Turn on See caller & spam ID, Filter spam calls, and Call Screen.
  • Samsung: Phone app > three-dot menu > Settings > Block numbers, then turn on Block calls from unknown numbers. Caller ID and spam protection is in the same Settings menu.

Report spam

  • Texts: forward the spam text to 7726 (spells SPAM). When asked, reply with the sender's number.
  • Calls: report nuisance calls to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
  • Do Not Call Registry: register your number free at donotcall.gov. It cuts legitimate telemarketing, though scammers ignore it.
  • Marketing texts: reply STOP to legitimate marketing messages. Senders must stop texting you.

People say I called them, but I didn't

Scammers can fake any number as their caller ID, including yours. This is called spoofing and no carrier can fully prevent it. It usually stops within a few days when the scammer moves on. A short voicemail greeting saying you didn't call can help.

If your own calls show as "Spam Risk" or "Scam Likely" to others, see Caller ID (CNAM): How Your Name Shows on Outgoing Calls.

Harassing or threatening calls

Write down the dates, times, and numbers, and email support@parrotmobile.com. For threats or stalking, contact local law enforcement, who can request call records through legal channels.
