Porting Your Number to Parrot Mobile

Modified on Wed, 23 Sep at 12:37 AM

You can bring your current phone number to Parrot Mobile when you sign up. Choose Transfer Number at checkout, enter the account details from your current carrier, and we handle the rest. Mobile numbers usually move within a day. Keep your old service active until the transfer finishes.

Before you start

Get these from your current carrier (they're usually in its app or website, or on a recent bill):

  • Account number: your account number with the current carrier, not your phone number.
  • Account PIN: many carriers require a special Number Transfer PIN. AT&T: dial *PORT (*7678) from the AT&T phone. Verizon: dial #PORT (#7678) or use the My Verizon app (Number Transfer PIN). T-Mobile: use the T-Mobile app or website, or call T-Mobile.
  • Authorizing person's name: exactly as it appears on the account.
  • Billing address and ZIP: the billing address your current carrier has on file.

The number must be active and in good standing with your current carrier, and you must be the account owner or authorized on it.

Transfer your number at checkout

  1. Pick a plan at parrotmobile.com/plans (or Add a line from the line switcher in your account).
  2. Under New Number or Transfer your existing number, choose Transfer Number.
  3. Enter the number in Your Phone Number to Transfer and click Check Portability.
  4. Under Transfer Information, enter your Account Number, Account Pin, and Authorizing Person's Name.
  5. Finish checkout. The transfer starts right away and your billing cycle begins that day.

If Check Portability says the number can't be transferred, double-check it. If it's right, choose New Number or contact support.

Already have a line with a new number and want to bring your old number to it? Email support@parrotmobile.com and we'll set it up.

Don't cancel your old service yet

We do not cancel your current service. Keep it active until your number shows Number active with us. Cancelling early can make the transfer fail or lose the number. After the transfer completes, cancel the old service yourself if your old carrier doesn't close it automatically.

Track your transfer

Sign in at app.parrotmobile.com and pick the line from the line switcher at the top. The line's Overview shows Transfer progress, and we email you at every step:

  1. Request submitted: we sent your request to your current carrier.
  2. Carrier review: your current carrier is verifying the details.
  3. Approved: your carrier released the number to us.
  4. Number active: your number works on Parrot Mobile.

How long it takes:

  • Mobile numbers: anywhere from 2 hours to a couple of days, usually within 24 hours.
  • Landline or VoIP numbers: 3 to 10 business days.

Install your SIM or eSIM while you wait. See Setting Up Your SIM or eSIM.

Your transfer needs a correction

If your current carrier rejects a detail, the line shows We need a correction (the line switcher and All lines show Action needed) and we email you. To fix it:

  1. Pick the line from the line switcher at the top (or click Fix the transfer on its card in All lines). The Update transfer details form is on the line's Overview.
  2. Read the message at the top. It tells you which detail the carrier rejected, and the matching field is marked Needs attention.
  3. Correct Account number, Account PIN, Authorizing person's name, Street address, City, State, or ZIP as needed.
  4. Click Resubmit transfer. We send it back to the carrier right away.

What each message means

  • Account number needs to be corrected: the carrier didn't recognize it. Copy it from a recent bill or the carrier's app.
  • Transfer PIN needs to be corrected: the PIN didn't match. Your carrier may need a Number Transfer PIN instead of your normal PIN.
  • A number transfer PIN is required: your carrier has port protection on. Generate a Number Transfer PIN (Verizon: dial #PORT or use My Verizon) and enter it as the PIN.
  • Action needed with AT&T: AT&T must approve the transfer. Follow any text from AT&T, and dial *PORT on the AT&T phone for a Number Transfer PIN if needed.
  • Billing ZIP code needs to be corrected: use the ZIP from the old carrier's billing address, not your home or shipping address if they differ.
  • Account holder name needs to be corrected: enter the first name, last name, or business name exactly as it appears on the old account.
  • Account verification needed or Account details need to be corrected: confirm your account number, PIN, ZIP, and name with your carrier, then resubmit.
  • Phone number is not active: reactivate the number with your current carrier first, then resubmit.
  • Phone number couldn't be verified: confirm the number is right and still active. If it is, contact support.

If the line shows Transfer failed, you can still update the details and resubmit, or contact support.

Checkout didn't finish?

If payment didn't go through, the line shows Your setup was not finished and we keep your transfer request. Click Try again to pick up where you left off, or Cancel the transfer if you've changed your mind.
