Using Wi-Fi Calling with Parrot Mobile

Modified on Wed, 23 Sep at 12:37 AM

Wi-Fi calling lets you call and text over Wi-Fi when cellular signal is weak. To use it, set your line's E911 emergency address under More > Line settings > Line info (this turns on Wi-Fi calling for your line), then turn on Wi-Fi calling in your phone's settings. Calls and texts over Wi-Fi use your plan's minutes and messages like normal.

Step 1: Set your E911 address

Wi-Fi calling can't be turned on without an emergency address. It's what 911 dispatchers get if you call from Wi-Fi.

  1. Sign in at app.parrotmobile.com and pick the line from the line switcher at the top.
  2. Open More (top bar on a computer, bottom bar on a phone) > Line settings > Line info.
  3. Under E911 emergency address, click Add address (or Edit), enter the address where you use the phone most, and click Save.
  4. Check More > Line settings > Line features. Wi-Fi calling should now be on. If not, turn it on. Changes can take a few minutes to reach the network.

Full details and address errors are covered in Setting Your E911 Emergency Address (Required for Wi-Fi Calling).

Step 2: Turn it on in your phone

iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling (older iOS: Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling).
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone and confirm.

When it's working, the status bar shows Parrot Mobile Wi-Fi or a Wi-Fi symbol next to the carrier name.

Android

  1. Open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, then Settings.
  2. Tap Calls or Calling accounts, then Wi-Fi calling, and turn it on. On some phones it's under Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Wi-Fi calling.

When it's working, you'll see a Wi-Fi calling icon in the status bar.

Good to know

  • Calls and texts over Wi-Fi count toward your plan like regular calls and texts.
  • Your phone uses cellular when the signal is good and switches to Wi-Fi when it's weak.
  • Update your E911 address if you move, so emergency services go to the right place.
  • Traveling abroad? Wi-Fi calling can be a good backup. See International Roaming: Pay-As-You-Go Explained.

Wi-Fi calling won't turn on

  1. Check your E911 address is saved under Line info, and Wi-Fi calling is on under Line features.
  2. Check your line is active and shows signal. A line that's still activating can't use Wi-Fi calling. See Activating Your Service (and What to Do If It Doesn't Work).
  3. Check your plan has talk minutes. Data-only plans don't include calling.
  4. Wait a few minutes after saving the address, then turn Wi-Fi calling off and on in your phone and restart it.
  5. Forget and rejoin your Wi-Fi network. Some public or work networks block Wi-Fi calling.
  6. Update your phone to the latest software.
