International Calling: Available Countries & Setup

Parrot Mobile plans with talk minutes include free calling from the US to dozens of countries. Calls to other countries are paid per minute from your Calling credit. International calls need three things: a plan with talk minutes, International long distance turned on, and calling credit for any destination that isn't free.

What you need to call internationally

1. A plan with talk minutes. International calls are voice calls, so they need talk minutes on your plan or from a talk minute top-up. Data-only plans can't make calls, even with calling credit.
2. International long distance turned on. Check under More > Line settings > Line features. It's on by default.
3. Calling credit for destinations that aren't free with your plan. Free destinations use your plan minutes and don't need credit.

Which countries are free?

Search any country on our International Calling page. Countries marked free are included with plans that have talk minutes, and each country page shows its landline and mobile rates plus dialing instructions. The list of free countries can change, so check the page rather than relying on an old list.

Calls to free countries use your plan's talk minutes, just like a call within the US.

How to dial

Dial from your phone's normal dialer in either format:

• + country code, then the number, for example +44 20 7946 0000 for the UK. On most phones, press and hold 0 to type +.
• 011, country code, then the number, for example 011 44 20 7946 0000.

Canada, Puerto Rico, and many Caribbean countries use the North American Numbering Plan, so you dial them like a US long-distance call (1 + area code + number).

Calling countries that aren't free

Calls to other countries are billed per minute, rounded up to the next full minute, from your account's calling credit.

1. Check the rate on the country's page at parrotmobile.com/international-calling. Mobile numbers sometimes cost more than landlines.
2. Sign in at app.parrotmobile.com.
3. On any line's Overview tab, find the Calling credit card and click Add funds (or go to More > Account billing > International calling & roaming > Add funds).
4. Choose an amount and card, then click Confirm top-up.

My international call won't connect

Go through these in order:

1. Does your plan include talk minutes? Check Your plan on the line's Overview. If it's data-only, add a talk minute top-up. This is the most common cause, and the call fails without a clear error.
2. Do you have talk minutes left? Check This cycle on Overview. If you're out, add a talk minute top-up or wait for your renewal.
3. Is International long distance on? Check More > Line settings > Line features. Changes can take a few minutes to reach the network.
4. Is the country free? If not, make sure your Calling credit covers the call. If the balance is too low, you'll hear a message that you're out of credit.
5. Is the number dialed correctly? Use + or 011, the country code, then the number without the leading 0 some countries use for local calls.

Receiving and texting

• Receiving calls from abroad while you're in the US doesn't cost you anything extra. The caller pays their carrier's rates.
• International texts work to most countries. Check the country's page for details.

Traveling outside the US?
