Choosing the Right Parrot Mobile Plan

Modified on Wed, 23 Sep at 12:37 AM

Pick a plan based on how much mobile data you use and whether the line needs to make calls. Every plan is prepaid with no contract, each line can be on a different plan, and you can change plans later. See current plans and prices on our Plans page.

The main plan types

  • Talk, text, and data plans for everyday phones. Pick the data amount that fits.
  • Data-only plans for tablets, hotspots, or a phone you mostly use on Wi-Fi. These do not include talk minutes.
  • Talk-only plans with a set number of minutes, for a backup line, a first phone, or a basic phone. These do not include data.

Step 1: Estimate your data

  • 1 to 2 GB: mostly on Wi-Fi at home and work, light browsing and maps on the go.
  • 5 to 10 GB: daily social media, music streaming, and navigation on cellular.
  • More: video streaming on cellular or regular hotspot use.

Not sure? Check a recent bill from your current carrier for your monthly data total. If you run short, you can add a data top-up for the month.

Step 2: Decide whether the line needs calls

!

Data-only plans can't make calls

A data-only plan has no talk minutes, so regular calls, Wi-Fi calling, voicemail, and international calling will not work, even if you add calling credit. To make calls for a month, buy a Talk minute top-up from the line's Top up tab, or choose a plan with talk.

Step 3: Think about hotspot

Hotspot uses your plan's regular data. There is no separate hotspot allowance. See Using Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.

Step 4: Think about travel and international use

Step 5: Talk-only plans and texting

Talk-only plans don't include data, so they cannot use mobile internet, hotspot, or picture and group messages (MMS). See Group Messaging and MMS Troubleshooting. If you only occasionally need data, add a data top-up for the month.

Step 6: Monthly or prepay for longer

Every plan can be paid monthly. Many plans also offer a multi-month term paid up front, which lowers the effective monthly price (the plan picker shows the savings, for example "Save 10%"). Your allowances still refresh every month during the term.

Changing your mind later

You can change plans from Overview > Your plan > Change plan. Upgrades apply right away, and downgrades are scheduled for your next renewal. See Changing Your Plan and Buying Top-Ups.
