Using Mobile Hotspot and Tethering

Modified on Sun, 19 Apr at 12:33 AM

You can use your Parrot Mobile line as a mobile hotspot to get other devices online — laptops, tablets, game consoles, anything that connects to Wi-Fi.

Hotspot needs data on your plan. Hotspot shares your line's mobile data, so it only works on plans that include data. Talk-only plans (for example, a 100 Talk or 300 Talk plan) cannot run hotspot until you buy a data top-up or change to a plan that includes data.

How Much Hotspot You Get

Plan type Hotspot allowance
Plans with a fixed data bucket (e.g. 5 GB, 15 GB) Hotspot shares your plan data. Anything you tether counts against the same monthly data.

You can see exact totals for your plan on the Plans page.

Turn Hotspot On in Your Dashboard

Hotspot has to be enabled at the line level before it works on your device.

  1. Sign in at https://www.parrotmobile.com/app.

  2. Open the line you want to use as a hotspot.

  3. Go to Settings > Features.

  4. Make sure Hotspot & Tethering is toggled on.

Enable Hotspot on Your Phone

iPhone

  1. Open Settings > Personal Hotspot.

  2. Toggle Allow Others to Join on.

  3. Set or note the Wi-Fi Password shown on this screen.

  4. On the device you want to connect, pick the hotspot name (usually your iPhone's name) from its Wi-Fi list and enter that password.

Android

Menus vary by manufacturer.

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & tethering (or Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering on Samsung).

  2. Tap Mobile Hotspot and toggle it on.

  3. Tap Configure to view or change the hotspot name and password.

  4. Connect your other device to that Wi-Fi network using the password.

Hotspot Won't Connect or Stays at "Connecting"

  1. Confirm the Hotspot & Tethering feature toggle is on for the line in your dashboard.

  2. Confirm your device has mobile data and you can browse the web on it normally first. If you can't, fix that first — see Trouble with Calls, Texts, or Data.

  3. Verify your APN is set correctly. The hotspot APN must also be set to wholesale on iOS — see APN Settings for Android and iPhone.

  4. Restart your phone and try again.

  5. Check that you haven't already used your full hotspot allowance for the cycle (visible on the line's Plan & Usage tab).

If the hotspot still won't share data after that, email us at support@parrotmobile.com with your device model and the steps you've tried.
